11 Quebec residents arrested in GTA auto theft investigation [Video]

Eleven people have been charged and four more are still at large after a two-month investigation into auto thefts in Durham Region, dubbed Project Carbon.

The Durham Regional Police Auto Theft Unit (Project Attire) began an investigation into numerous thefts of motor vehicles throughout the region in January and were able to identify a large group of suspects said to be operating an organized auto theft network out of two addresses in Toronto.

On March 13, investigators, with the assistance of multiple other units, executed two search warrants and arrested 11 people without incident. Officers seized equipment used to steal vehicles, Canadian currency, a quantity of cocaine and were also able to recover two stolen vehicles.

All 11 suspects reside in Quebec and travelled to Durham where police said they stole vehicles and transported them back to Quebec. So far, 20 vehicles have been recovered and 18 remain outstanding.
