The biggest deal in Brooklin kicks off Thursday with the opening of the Brooklin Spring Fair, an extra-long weekend event that has celebrated all things country in north Whitby since 1911.

The long-running fair is now one of the biggest spring fairs in the province, attracting at least 30,000 fans or more over its four days each year, bringing a taste of the country to locals and urban folk from south of Highway 7. Last year the fair had more than 10,000 visitors come through the gates on Saturday alone.

People come from miles around to enjoy the midway, the Truck & Tractor Pull, the Rawhide Rodeo tour and the popular demolition derby, along with blue ribbon livestock competitions and demonstrations, pie-eating contests, activities for kids of all ages and daily entertainment.
