Some 200,000 fewer travellers passed through Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga in the first three months of this year compared to the same time period in 2024, the latest numbers from Canada’s biggest and busiest airport show.
Officials with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, which operates Pearson, said in a news release this week 10.7 million air travellers used Pearson between January and the end of March of this year compared to 10.9 million during those same three months in 2024.
“This was due to a slight softening in both the international and domestic sectors, compared to the same period in 2024,” GTAA officials said. “February also saw extreme weather conditions and a five-day runway closure due to a single aircraft incident.”
The nearly week-long runway closure came after a Delta Air Lines inbound flight from Minneapolis crashed and burst into flames upon landing at Pearson on the afternoon of Feb. 17.
