11Alive explores how diversity comes together to create metro Atlanta’s vibrant AAPI community.

ATLANTA — There are more than 50 ethnicities, 100 languages and a multitude of ways to fall under what the United States has deemed as the Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander umbrella.

Whether addressed as AANHPI, AAPIDA (to include Desi Americans) or AAPI, the acronym serves to bring several identities together while working to include the many ethnicities that have helped shape the U.S.

That’s why, for this Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, 11Alive aimed to explore the diverse history, cultures, entrepreneurship, and arts to understand a community’s movement to create a sense of belonging.

As Georgia’s State Rep. Dr. Michelle Au said, “There are many ways to be an AAPI Georgian.”
