2024 the wettest year on record at Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga [Video]

The year isn’t over yet but Mississauga has already broken the annual precipitation record for 2024.

After heavy rain at Pearson Airport on Sunday night, the total precipitation for the year is 1052.6 millimetres, Environment and Climate Change Canada said in a post on X.

This breaks the 2008 record for the highest amount of precipitation between 1938 and 2024. The 2008 total was 1049.6 millimetres.

The record comes after major two rain events, which caused extensive flooding in the summer.

The first “100-year storm” hit Mississauga on July 16. A total of 106 mm of rain fell in the span of a few hours, also leading to emergency rescues, and flooded roads and homes.

Then over the weekend of Aug. 17 and 18, as much as 170 mm of rain fell in some areas of Mississauga. The deluge flooded roads and damaged properties. Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services conducted 27 water rescues.
