30 cm of snow expected in parts of Ontario [Video]

Heavy snow will hit parts of Ontario this week.

The first day of spring arrives this week on March 20 and many parts of the province have had warm temperatures but winter isn’t done yet.

The Weather Network forecasts a “wintery surprise” on Wednesday and Thursday for northern Ontario.

A Colorado low will pull moisture from the Gulf of Mexico as it travels over the Great Lakes on Wednesday morning, the Weather Network said.

But the low will hit a cold mass sitting over northern Ontario, which will create a band of heavy snow over the northeast, the forecaster said.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a winter storm watch for areas in the north including Kapuskasing, Chapleau, White River, Elliot Lake, Kirkland Lake, Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls.

Peak snowfall rates of three to five cm per hour are expected with total snowfall amounts of 10 to 40 cm, the advisory stated. More snow will fall in …
