As measles cases continue to rise in Ontario, officials urge people to get vaccinated.

Over the last several weeks, the number of new measles cases rose to 173 bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Ontario to 350 since 2024, including 31 hospitalizations, Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health said in a statement.

“This is the most measles cases Ontario has seen in over a decade,” Moore said. “It is critical we work together to mitigate further spread of this vaccine-preventable disease.”

This week, Toronto Public Health announced a confirmed case of measles in a traveller on board Air Canada Flight AC 002 at Toronto Pearson Airport on March 2. Another case came through the airport in February. Public health officials confirmed the first recent case of measles connected to the airport back in December.

On March 13, Public Health Ontario reported 372 total cases since an outbreak began on Oct. 28, 2024.
