Four people were injured, one of them critically, after a head-on crash Monday morning in Ontario cottage country, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews responded to the scene at around 7 a.m. on Highway 35 between Sandy Hook and Pontypool roads in Kawartha Lakes.

The crash involved two vehicles, police said.

Three people were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were reported to be minor.

One person was taken to a trauma centre in Toronto with life-threatening injuries, OPP said.

The highway was closed for several hours as officers investigated.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked that any witnesses or anyone with video footage come forward.
