Habitat for Humanity GTA’s Making Homes Possible in Whitby begins Thursday with the official launch of a 40-unit project in the heart of the historic downtown.

The organization is building the affordable housing units on two sites along Hickory Street and Dunlop Street, on lands valued at $5 million donated by the Town of Whitby last year.

“With the growing need for affordable homeownership opportunities, this development will provide local families with a safe, quality place to call home,” Habitat for Humanity said in a news release about the launch event, which will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Centennial Building on Centre Street South.

Each residence features family-sized interiors, a full suite of modern appliances, parking, access to the outdoors as well as a brand-new community space planned for the Dunlop site.
