The OPP is appealing for witnesses after an 84-year-old woman was assaulted and is now “fighting for her life” in a Toronto trauma centre after a collision on the Salem Road ramp to the eastbound Highway 401 in Ajax Wednesday morning.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt called the incident, which happened just before 11 a.m., a “terrible assault” and is hoping the public can help find the man responsible for the attack.

The suspect is described as 20-35 years old, with long black hair and tattoos on his arms and chest. He was driving a white or light beige sedan which may be damaged by the collision.

Information on the incident can be sent to the Whitby OPP detachment at (905) 668-3388.
