SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Wind gusts peaked this afternoon with many gusts reaching 40-50+mph with some isolated 60+mph reports! The strong wind today into tonight is being caused by strong low pressure over Nova Scotia and high pressure building into the South. The tight pressure gradient between the two is where we are sitting and that is producing the gusty northwest wind. As this low continues to move farther northeast and away from New England, wind will continue to lighten.

Wind gusts continue to lighten tonight, which has brought an end to the wind advisories in the area. We remain breezy with a northwesterly wind of 10-20mph and occasional gusts to 30-40mph, especially in the higher terrain. Skies stay clear through sunrise with lows falling into the lower 30s and wind chills staying in the 20s.

High pressure will begin to dominate our weather Tuesday, bringing a mainly sunny sky. …
