JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) -People from around Eastern Iowa will gather at the Johnson County Fairgrounds on Saturday for the 28th Annual University of Iowa Powwow. The event aims to showcase and celebrate Native American culture. Leaders with the event say it’s a way for Native Americans to come together to honor their culture. There will be food, dance, and art for people to enjoy.

Abby Buffalo, Native American Student Association President says there’s one thing she hopes non-natives attending the powwow will take away. “I really just want them to experience and learn more about Native American culture. I know times even still today people aren’t really sure that natives still exist, but we’re here, we’re thriving and we’re this is just a huge celebration for us to showcase our culture.”

Doors to the event open at 11:00 am Saturday morning at the Jonson County Fairgrounds.
