YRDSB News & Events: Navigating the Future of Education with De-Streaming

Grade 8 and 9 teachers from Armadale Public School and Middlefield Collegiate Institute are working together to help with the transition process from elementary to high school and embrace the shift of de-streaming, highlighting the collaborative efforts and innovative strategies employed by educators to ensure equity and inclusivity for all students.

The goal of de-streaming is to eliminate identity-based disproportionalities in achievement, well-being, graduation rates, and post-secondary outcomes. Historically, streaming has created long-term student groups based on perceptions of ability, often leading to disparities in access to opportunities. With the elimination of streaming in Grade 9 English, Science, Geography, Math, and French, Ontario is paving the way for a more equitable educational system.

Through strategic planning and collaboration, educators are crafting inclusive curriculum frameworks and implementing differentiated instructional strategies. The video showcases teachers’ observations and reflections on assessment practices, highlighting the interaction of ideas between elementary and high school educators.
