London Marathon: Peres Jepchirchir breaks record as elite runners secure Olympic places video | Sport

Peres ­Jepchirchir sprinted clear of three rivals to claim the women’s-only world record, finishing with a time of 2hr 16min 16sec. After the race, Jepchirchir said: ‘I was not expecting to run a world record – I knew it might be beaten but I did not expect it to be me.’ Jepchirchir’s performance was also enough to secure her place at Paris 2024, an achievement also claimed by the men’s elite winner Alexander Mutiso Munyao and Britain’s Emile Cairess who finished in third.
