Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a tornado warning for Lachute, Que. as thunderstorms are set to roll through southwestern Quebec.

The tornado warning was just issued shortly before 2 p.m. The weather agency said a storm was near Grenville and was moving northeast.

In the event of a tornado, people are advised to stay indoors, away from windows and exterior walls, and to take refuge in a solid building rather than a mobile home or car.

A severe thunderstorm watch is also in effect for much of southwestern Quebec, including the Montreal area, as conditions are ripe for the development of severe storms “capable of producing strong gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” ECCC said.
