Officials say a neighbor noticed the flames on the apartment’s balcony and called for help.
Firefighters are reminding residents to make sure their smoke detectors are working properly to avoid fires like this one.
“So, we just want to remind the citizens not to remove the batteries from their smoke detector and to test their batteries,” said Batt. Chief David Meyer with OKCFD. “We’ll bring them a free one if they have one that doesn’t work.”
Crews were able to put the fire out quickly and no injuries have been reported. Fire officials say the cause of the fire was improper disposal of smoking materials.
