The Speaker of the House of Commons has asked Conservative MP Garnett Genuis to retract a comment he made last week that the Liberals said was homophobic.

Speaker Greg Fergus said Tuesday that while he was “prepared to take [Genuis] at his word,” he was asking the MP to withdraw his remark “at the earliest possible opportunity.”

“I would invite him to reflect upon how his comments could have been interpreted and to recognize that they provoked disorder,” Fergus said.
