Choctaw dancers headline Indigenous Peoples Day at Crazy Horse [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Members of the Choctaw tribe traveled from Oklahoma to Crazy Horse Memorial to perform a traditional Native American dance for hundreds of spectators Monday afternoon.

Headlining Crazy Horse’s cultural programs on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the group performed several dances and explained the cultural significance and legends associated with them. They fielded questions from spectators – ranging from Rapid City citizens to a family from Japan.

”As Native people or Indigenous people as a whole, we all went through hard times whether you’re north of the border, south in the United States, or even down in Mexico,” War Dancer Michael Roberts said, “No matter what tribe you come from, we’re celebrating life, harmony, kinship, prosperity, all of these things.”
