PRINCE GEORGE –The former director of inclusion, diversity, equity, and human rights at Northern Health, has filed a lawsuit against the health authority claiming wrongful dismissal and a violation of Charter rights.

According to the lawsuit, Amy Blanding asserts that she was terminated for expressing support for Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

At a press conference held outside the B.C. Supreme Court last Wednesday, Blanding stated that her support for human rights led to her dismissal, describing the termination as “another example of anti-Palestinian racism in the workplace.”

The claim states that Blanding, who is also a musician, performed a ‘political’ song at a community concert in April.

During a dress rehearsal, she wore a shirt with a watermelon image over a map of Israel, which is stated to be a symbol of support for Palestinian human rights. Although, the shirt was not worn during the public concert.
