Distracted walking just as dangerous as driving
A new study finds distracted walking can be equally as concerning as distracted driving.
Researchers at the University of British Columbia says people using a phone to talk, text or listen to music were found to be less likely to take defensive action when in danger compared to those who stay alert to their surroundings.
Distracted walkers moved slower and closer to vehicles compared to their non-distracted counterparts. They were also less likely to yield to oncoming traffic or change their direction even when dangerously close to vehicles.
