Ontario Provincial Police have laid charges against a driver allegedly street racing on Highway 417 in Ottawa’s west end.

Police say they responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash that happened west of Moodie Drive shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday.

“The collision occured as a direct result of several vehicles racing along the highway,” OPP said in a news release.

The group was seen on Ministry of Transportation cameras travelling at high rates of speed from the 417 to Terry Fox Drive.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision has been charged with stunt driving and careless driving, an OPP spokesperson said. Another person was arrested at the scene and charged with obstructing a peace officer.

There were significant delays on Highway 417 near the crash for approximately one hour.
