Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is probing the deaths of a 52-year-old man and two family members following a distress call to police last night from a home in the town of Huntsville in the Muskoka region.
The SIU said in a news release on Saturday that the incident began around 9 p.m., when a man contacted police, claiming to have harmed two relatives inside a home, stating that he was armed.
The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates incidents involving police and citizens where injury or a death has occurred.
The OPP responded by deploying a team that included crisis negotiators and the Emergency Response Team.
The team set up a perimeter around the home and communicated with a man on the phone.
