Recently admitted for double coronary bypass heart surgery, a patient is stretched out on a hospital bed, a bandaged chest rhythmically moving up and down with each breath.

He’s lifelike, but 65-year-old Arvid Gauthier, as a hospital bracelet on his wrist indicates, isn’t real. He’s an electronic mannequin, designed to train students for health-care professions.
