Thunderstorms could disrupt flight schedules at Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

After a chilly start to the week, temperatures are expected to go up Tuesday morning. With the warmer weather, there is a risk of a thunderstorm, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

A thunderstorm could arrive late this morning bringing 10 to 15 mm of rain, the weather forecaster said. A high 18 C is expected.

Pearson Airport said they are monitoring a band of thunderstorms moving into the GTA from the west Tuesday.

When lightning strikes within eight kilometres of the airport, the Lightning Warning System activates, airport officials said. The system has over 100 strobe flashes to alert employees to head indoors.

“With unsettled weather, some flights could be impacted,” Pearson said on X. “The storm is expected to arrive after our morning peak which will see 114 departures between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.”

Travellers can check their departure time here.
