Bighorn sheep stirs up traffic in Deadwood area [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – If you were out trick-or-treating Thursday and happen to be an animal lover, we have a treat for you.

This morning, a bighorn sheep was spotted outside of Deadwood city limits. The animal was seen in the middle of the road at times, wandering down U.S. Highway 85.

According to South Dakota Game Fish and Parks, in the 1960s, the state began reintroducing bighorns.

Their populations have changed over time, with the latest transfer efforts coming via bighorns being removed from Alberta, Canada, and brought into the Deadwood area.

After causing a traffic stir, the animal made its way onto the snowy hillside and ran off.
