A single car accident has claimed the life of a pedestrian, after authorities say he failed to yield the right of way.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — A fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:16 a.m. on Nov.4 in Ector County.

According to a news release from Sgt. Steven Blanco with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Joel Tijerina 51, of Odessa has died at the scene after being struck by a 2016 GMC Yukon. The driver of the Yukon was identified as 54-year-old Lori Lee Carbery of Odessa.

The news release would go onto state that the GMC Yukon was traveling westbound on West University, in the inside lane. Tijerina was walking south across the westbound lanes of West University and did not yield the right of way and was struck by Carbery.

The crash remains under investigation.
