FORT ST. JOHN –The City of Fort St. John has voted in favour of annual wage increases for members of council.

Starting in 2027, councillors will see their salaries increase to 40 per cent of the mayor’s base earnings, up from the current 37.5 per cent.

The mayor’s salary will remain unchanged, sitting at just over $102,000 per year in 2024.

Into 2030, councillors will now earn on average $41,000 annually for their roles. In addition to benefit’s coverage and a health and wellness allowance, there will also be increases tied to inflation.

Councillors will see an annual one per cent top-up tied to the Consumer Price Index, capped at a maximum of three percent.

Trevor Bolin was the only councillor who opposed the salary increases, citing the need for it to be earned by future council, given the next municipal election is slated for 2026.
