New Leland Middle School principal approved by Board of Education [Video]

LELAND, N.C. (WECT) – The Brunswick County Board of Education approved Jake Lawrence as the new Principal of Leland Middle School at their meeting on Nov. 19.

Lawrence currently serves as the district’s Deputy Human Resources Officer, a role he has held since May 2024. He also has been the principal of Topsail Middle School from 2018 to 2024 as well as assistant principal from 2015 to 2018.

“Mr. Lawrence is the right person to lead Leland Middle School at this pivotal time. His deep understanding of Brunswick County Schools, combined with his passion for middle school education, will be key in advancing the school’s mission and fostering student success both inside and outside the classroom,” Superintendent Dale Cole said.

He will begin his new role on Dec. 2, succeeding Shawn Black who recently resigned from the position.
