Changes are coming to Highway 407 ETR in the new year.

Tolls and fees are increasing, while new toll zones and vehicle classifications are being introduced.

Officials said the changes will be taking effect on Jan. 1.

It appears that the highway, which is used by more than three million people each week, will get more expensive to use.

For light vehicles, tolls will increase by three to 14 cents per kilometre, depending on the time of day and zone travelled, officials said.

The camera charge, account fee and transponder lease fee will also be increasing for the first time in five years.

The annual transponder fee will be increasing to $29.50 plus tax, which is up from $24.50. The annual fee for each additional transponder on the same account will be $11.95, up from $9.95.

Transponders eliminate camera charges and account fees.
