CHARLIE LAKE –Two people were rushed to hospital following a collision in Charlie Lake this morning.

The two-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 97 at West Coast Frontage Road.

Police, fire, and ambulance services all attended the scene that shut down a portion of the Alaska Highway just before 8:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a car flipped on its roof with smoke coming from it.

According to Fort St. John Staff Sergeant Scott Watson, one of the victims had to be extracted from a vehicle.

A 23-year-old female driver was hospitalized for her injuries, while a passenger in the vehicle was extracted and also transported for medical care.

The extent of their injuries and what led to the car being overturned are currently unknown pending an official report. However, DriveBC continues to warn of slippery road conditions in the area.

Traffic was being detoured via Charlie Lake Crescent & Lakeshore Drive, says Dawson Road Maintenance.

The scene has since been cleared.
