CHARLIE LAKE –A vehicle reported stolen from Fort St. John is currently submerged in the partially frozen waters of Charlie Lake.

The older model Chevrolet Suburban was reported stolen by its owner on Sunday, according to the RCMP.

The Fort St. John detachment have contracted a towing company to remove the vehicle from the lake, however the recovery was deemed unsafe.

The lower half of the vehicle remains frozen underwater only a couple hundred feet from the Charlie Lake boat launch, while the upper half is wrapped in police tape.

The Natural Resource Office has been notified of the incident, but the RCMP have yet to hear back on their plans to investigate the incident.

The Peace River District (PRRD) has also been notified. CJDC-TV reached out for comment on their role in mitigating the risk to environmental impacts, however, did not receive a response in time for publication.
