FORT ST. JOHN –In a setback for the local business community, two women’s clothing boutiques in Fort St. John have announced they will be shutting their doors.

Scoop Clothing, located on 100th Avenue, announced on November 28th that it will be closing after 16 years in business. The owner confirmed her retirement in a Facebook post.

“It’s a sad day, the staff are very, very sad about closing Scoop,” said Paulette Flamond, who opened the store in 2008.

While Borealis Clothing, situated in Gateway Plaza, also announced that they would be closing at the end of the month after seven years in operation.

The closures are forcing the city and the Fort St. John District Chamber of Commerce to identify how they can better support home-based and local storefront businesses amid an on-going push to shop local.
