Justice statue to be built outside of Pennington County Administration building soon [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – A statue representing the search for justice for missing and murdered Indigenous persons will be built outside the Pennington County Administration building.

Tuesday, the Pennington County Commission unanimously approved the Red Ribbon Skirt Society’s ‘Justice’ statue. It will be placed outside the administration building, which will be renamed the Justice Building. The statue will be in memory of missing and murdered Indigenous people.

The founder of the Red Ribbon Skirt Society, Lily Mendoza, said the statue has been in the organization’s plans for the last eight years and the group has already raised about half of the $30,000 cost.
