The City of Montreal says it plans to increase fines for specific violations, including double parking and parking in reserved lanes, starting in 2025.

Valérie Plante’s administration says it wants to adopt the hikes during a Dec. 16 city council meeting.

According to the city, the more expensive parking tickets are expected to generate an additional $5.4 million in revenue in 2025.

These increases follow a previous raise in parking fines adopted in 2022.

Here is an overview of the types of fines that are going up:

  • Illegal parking: from $60 to $65
  • Double parking or obstructing traffic: from $71 to $77
  • Parking in a prohibited stop zone: from $71 to $77
  • Parking in a zone reserved for persons with disabilities: from $271 to $293
  • Parking in a reserved lane: from $271 to $293

The city says it is implementing the motion to “change the delinquent and problematic behaviour of motorists.”
