Environmental Law Centre suing Quebec over info registry [Video]

The Quebec Centre for Environmental Law (CQDE) is suing the Quebec government over its failure to put the public environmental information registry online within an acceptable timeframe, which “compromises citizen participation and environmental protection.”

The CQDE’s lawyers are denouncing “a continuing lack of political will,” despite the fact that the public register of environmental information is “seven years overdue.”

The Environment Quality Act (EQA) has been in force since March 23, 2018.

Section 118.5 of the Act stipulates that the Minister of the Environment must keep a public register containing a wide range of information on industrial projects and activities.

For example, the register must contain the description and source of contaminants caused by a project, the type of discharge into the environment and the conditions that a proponent must meet, prohibitions and specific standards applicable to the activity.
