Some parts of the province could be in for up to 40 cm of snow as lake-effect squalls are expected to hit southern Ontario this week.

Fog and rain dominated the forecast on Tuesday, but more snow is on the way as a “weather bomb” in the U.S. will bring colder air to Ontario with storms expected on Wednesday according to the Weather Network.

Between 20 to 40 cm of snow could fall in some areas like Lake Superior, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

Environment Canada says Goderich, Tobermory and Barrie are also expected to see snow, strong winds and freezing rain throughout the week.

The weather system in the U.S. will also add to strong winds in Ontario this week that could gust between 50 to 70 km/h on Wednesday.
