There is a rainfall warning in effect in southern Quebec, including the Montreal and Laval regions.

The freezing rain warning ended on Tuesday afternoon.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says that around 30 to 40 millimetres of precipitation is expected beginning Tuesday night and continuing into Wednesday night from Monteregie to past Quebec City along the St. Lawrence River.

Temperatures will hover between 5 degrees Celsius and -1.

“As the ground is frozen and has a reduced ability to absorb moisture, significant amounts of water could accumulate on roads and in other areas,” ECCC says. “A significant rise in the flow and level of some rivers is also quite possible.”

The warning adds that flash freezing is expected overnight on Wednesday to Thursday.

“Roads may become slippery, causing difficult travel conditions and transportation delays on Thursday morning,” Environment Canada says. “Plummeting temperatures will also come with very strong winds, which may damage trees and equipment, and flurries which, in addition to reducing visibilities, could leave a …
