RCMP arrest young Quebec man for hate speech [Video]

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have arrested a Quebec man for allegedly posting hate speech on social media.

Following an investigation by the RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, officers arrested the man in Rivière-du-Loup, a small city on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River about 200 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

The Mounties said Wednesday that he allegedly published “hundreds” of hateful messages in recent months on platforms like X, formerly Twitter, and Telegram “targeting Jewish communities and sexual minorities in particular.”

Police said they can’t reveal his identity since some of the offences were allegedly committed when he was a minor.

He was arrested in February on similar charges and released with conditions. The investigation showed that despite a previous arrest, he allegedly continued the illegal acts online.

He now faces charges of wilful promotion of hatred and wilful promotion of antisemitism under the Criminal Code.
