FORT ST. JOHN –The sentencing for Justin Sewell, a Fort St. John veterinarian found guilty of sexual assault, resumed Wednesday. The hearing is expected to last three days.

There were hopes it would have wrapped up in August, however, it was postponed when the defence could not attend court due to illness.

Sewell pled guilty to three offences in November 2022.

In June the judge allowed additional evidence to be introduced by both the crown and defence lawyers. It’s a decision that has slowed the proceedings, which initially began in July 2023.

Sewell was charged with sexual assault, secretly observing or recording nudity and voyeurism. The charges stem from an incident that occurred in Charlie Lake back in 2007.

The prosecution is seeking a federal prison sentence of 4.5 years.
