A video showcasing a well-liked Surrey school crossing guard has been viewed tens of thousands of times on social media.

The video features Terrance Pitts, a crossing guard for Latimer Road Elementary School.

Drive by 60 Avenue and 192 Street in Surrey on any morning or afternoon when school is in session, and you’ll see Pitts twirling his stop sign, waving at passing cars and greeting everyone he meets with a kind word and a friendly smile.

Parents and school staff tell CTV News he’s become a familiar face in the neighbourhood, well-known for that constant smile and positive energy.

“He’s building connections and building community,” said Susan Yip, Latimer Road Elementary School principal.

“We know that relationships is everything for kids, especially, and the families that come to our school. And I think that’s what he’s doing. He’s the first face that they see when they come to school …
