Montreal firefighters were called to a five-alarm blaze at a building in the city’s Villeray neighbourhood Wednesday evening.

The fire was in a building near the corner of Jarry and Foucher streets that housed a restaurant on the ground floor and residential units above.

Seven families were displaced from their homes as firefighters tried to extinguish the fire, according to Patrick Fournel, a spokesperson for the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal. Customers were also inside the restaurant when the fire broke out and were ordered to leave.

About 120 firefighters were called to the scene of the fire.

Montreal police said they received a 911 call at 7:35 p.m. reporting “smoke coming from a business on Jarry Street.” A police spokesperson said no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Hydro-Quebec reported some power outages in the area.
