Southern Manitoba under extreme cold warning [Video]

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is warning Manitobans that the extreme cold will likely “linger” until Thursday night into Friday morning.

ECCC has issued an extreme cold warning for much of southern Manitoba on Thursday morning, including in Winnipeg, Brandon and Portage la Prairie.

It says that a cold, Arctic air mass has settled over parts of southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The combination of overnight lows of -30 or colder and wind gusts of 10 to 15 km/h will bring about wind chill values of around -40.

The weather agency notes extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Manitobans should watch for cold-related symptoms, including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle weakness, numbness, and colour change of the fingers or toes.

ECCC advises to dress warmly and keep emergency supplies in your vehicle.
