In Nigeria, a growing preference for Western education and culture is contributing to the erosion of indigenous values.  Some languages, like Igbo, spoken by about 20 million people, are at risk of extinction, according to the United Nations. However, efforts are underway to safeguard this cultural heritage for future generations. Tesem Akende reports that one such measure is Igbo Day – when the tribes come together to dance and promote their customs and traditions.
