Beacon of Hope provides new, free roof for Lincoln veteran [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Since 2019, the Beacon of Hope initiative has been focused on helping veterans by covering the cost of one important home repair.

For the past five years, they have selected veterans from around the U.S. and Canada who were nominated by friends and family to receive a new roof at no cost.

This year, the winners of those roof replacements span from Massachusetts to right here in Lincoln.

The materials alone needed to replace the roof of Sayra Workman, a U.S. Army veteran living in Lincoln, would have cost nearly $10,000.

“It’s a chunk of change,” John Jurgensmeier, a branch manager with Beacon Building Products, said. “So it’s really helpful for people when they can get this done.”

As a winner of the Beacon of Hope initiative, she won’t be paying a single cent for the work done on her home Monday morning.
