A busy downtown Toronto intersection remains closed after a garbage truck downed overhead wires on Tuesday morning, snarling streetcar service along five separate routes.
The intersection of King Street and Spadina Avenue was shut down at approximately 8:15 a.m. after a truck made contact with the overhead wires, which provide power to the streetcar network.
The city said that eastbound and westbound traffic reopened at around 2:30 p.m. However, one hour later the intersection was closed again due to a collision.
The northbound and southbound lanes, meanwhile. remain closed as crews work to fix the damage to the overhead wires.
Police initially said the closure could last as long as two days but later clarified they aren’t sure how long it will take to fix the damage.
