Some residents in the Saint-Michel neighbourhood had their power restored on Tuesday after Hydro-Quebec installed generators in the affected areas.
As of Tuesday morning, electricity had been restored to 60 per cent of the homes impacted by the outage.
Hydro-Quebec said that by Tuesday afternoon, the remaining 40 per cent would have power restored.
The public utility is working with the Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension borough to install 12 temporary generators.
Hydro-Quebec said 1,200 homes were without power since Friday night.
The outage was caused by equipment failure and affected homes along Pie-IX Boulevard, from 41st to 53rd Street.
“Our crews have replaced several sections of cable since the weekend, but unfortunately, the system is still not functioning,” said Hydro-Quebec spokesperson Caroline Desrosiers.
Desrosiers added the issue lies within the underground network.
“We know that underground networks can take longer to fix because the work is more complex.”
Hydro-Quebec said the generators will remain in place until power is permanently restored.
