A man has been hospitalized after his motorcycle collided with a car in Nanaimo, B.C., Tuesday morning.

The crash took place around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Terminal Avenue North and Princess Royal Avenue, Nanaimo RCMP said in a statement.

The car, a newer model grey Kia Sportage, was turning left onto Princess Royal Avenue from Terminal Avenue when it collided with the motorbike, travelling northbound in the opposite lane.

The motorcyclist, riding an older model street style Suzuki bike, was sent to hospital with serious injuries, the release said.

“Several bystanders came to his aid, including an off-duty paramedic,” the release said.

The driver of the car, uninjured, stayed at the scene and co-operated with the investigators, it added.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to have played a part in the crash.
