A driver who allegedly drove into the Fraser River on purpose while two young children were in the vehicle with her has been charged with attempted murder, according to Delta police.
The incident occurred on the morning of Nov. 29 in the 8200 block of River Road. The Delta Police Department said in a news release that its officers were called to the scene for “a report of a car having been driven intentionally into the Fraser River.”
When they arrived, officers found the vehicle “off road” and “stuck in the foreshore of the river,” not in the water. Firefighters and bystanders were already present and helping the driver and the children.
At the time, police said both the children and the driver had been transported to hospital. The children were taken for observation, with “no apparent injuries noted,” according to police. The driver received treatment.
