Jelisa Maschki’s death ruled a homicide [Video]

Calgary police say the death of a woman found unconscious on a northeast pathway has been ruled a homicide.

A passerby found Jelisa Maschki, 23, in medical distress on the Nose Creek Pathway near Fox Hollow Golf Course at 4 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9.

She was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and placed on life support, but later died.

Though an autopsy was conducted, Maschki’s cause of death remained undetermined.

On Wednesday, police announced that after collecting more evidence, they believe her death was the result of a “fatal altercation” the day before she was found.

“Tips from the public have been instrumental in helping us progress this investigation and find answers for Jelisa’s family,” said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson in a news release.

Investigators believe the altercation that killed Maschki happened on Sunday, Dec. 8 between 9 and 11 p.m. 

She was travelling northbound on the pathway, police say.
