Wind warnings in place for B.C.’s Vancouver Island [Video]

Environment Canada has issued two separate wind warnings for Vancouver Island Thursday morning.

According to the weather agency, winds of up to 90 km/h are forecast for the exposed coastal sections of north Vancouver Island and its central coastline.

The gusts, brought in by a Pacific frontal system approaching the B.C. coast, are expected to subside by early afternoon.

The winds may cause damage, and residents of the affected regions are advised to prepare for power outages and fallen tree branches, the weather agency said.

Meanwhile, the central B.C. regions, comprising West Kootenay, Fraser Canyon, and Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, are under a fog alert until later Thursday morning.

Environment Canada is warning travellers that the conditions are creating near-zero visibility, with motorists facing the early morning commute advised to drive to the road conditions.
